The new "Assigned Piece Course"
We are pleased to announce that we have expanded the Japan Jazz Pop Piano Competition with a new section — Assigned Piece Course.
This category was created as a more open and accessible space for pianists who wish to develop their stage experience and musical interpretation skills in jazz and pop styles.
In the Assigned Piece Course, participants perform one of six selected pieces. The works may be presented either according to the original score or in the participant’s own arrangement, encouraging creativity, musicality, and the development of an individual performance style.
Thanks to its more focused format, participants can place greater emphasis on expressive freedom, building confidence on stage, and gradually gaining valuable competition experience.
The Assigned Piece Course was designed as a welcoming entry point especially for those who:
• are beginning their journey in piano competitions
• wish to develop their own interpretation and arranging style
• would like to build stage experience step by step.
Due to the nature of this category, participants also have greater opportunities to receive medals, helping to build motivation and positive performance experiences.
We hope that this new JJPPC section will become an inspiring space for the growth and artistic development of many young pianists. We warmly encourage everyone to participate!
